NASA Space Apps Challenge 2015

One word, awesome! It's a privilege to organise a hackathon with NASA and CARNet. The International Space Apps Challenge is an international mass collaboration focused on space exploration that takes place in cities all over the world. The global chalenge had 13806 participants in total, on 133 locations with 949 finished projects.



Our rating criteria was based on impact (how much impact can this project have?), creativity (is the project new and something that hasn’t been attempted before?), product (does it have a long way to go?) and sustainability (how good is the plan for next steps?).

#1 Save My Crops

Save My Crops is web and mobile app for providing growers with alerting system based on crowdsourced data. Web app enables exploring crop fields and reported pests and diseases. Furthermore, growers are provided with tools for mapping their crop fields and reporting occurances of pests and diseases on their crop fields. Mobile app gives growers the ability to easily report pests and diseases on site.

#2 Asteroid Hunter

Gather data based on the Asteroid Redirect Mission, make scientific predictions and structure the data to present it to a wide audience. It's an Android-based application that allows the user to explore the facts and data behind asteroid mining, as well as the possibilities such endeavours may bring to humanity. Project presents the fact-backed data to users in a simple and dynamic way, stimulating interest in these topics.

The International Space Apps Challenge is a two-day hackathon where teams of technologists, scientists, designers, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, developers and students across the globe collaborate and engage with publicly available data to design innovative solutions for global challenges.



Challenge Themes:

These challenges are designed to serve as an inspiration for your work and as a platform for the global community to work together. For that reason, we encourage you to join with others around the world during the event to create a collaborative solution.

April 11th-12th 2015 from Saturday 9AM to Sunday 5PM.
